Gavlak Elementary:
In preparation for the new school year, please mark your
calendar for the first day of school which will be September
2nd, a single session day (8:30- 12:55). As the year unfolds
and the students get acclimated to their new class, it is very
important that they review the school rules, complete their
homework, get a good night sleep and arrive to school on time,
8:30 a.m. “Set your child up for success” by helping them to
establish an effective routine in September, so that they will
meet with success throughout the school year. This year’s
kindergarten orientation will be held on Thursday, September 2nd
from 7 p.m. – 9 p.m. We will meet in the Gavlak School APR room
and then parents will have the opportunity to meet with their
child’s teacher. We look forward to meeting and working with all
of our kindergarten parents. Our Gavlak School “Back to
School Night” will be held September 23rd for grades 1-6. For
those parents that have children in both elementary schools,
please note that the Jefferson School “Back to School Night”
(grades 1-3) will be held on September 21st from 7p.m. -9 p.m.
On behalf of the administration, and staff we invite you to
attend school functions, and become an active member of the PTA.
We look forward to meeting and speaking with all of you as we
begin another exciting school year.
Sincerely, Nancy
Giambrone Principal |
Mission Statement:
The Wallington Elementary Schools believe
that all students should have the opportunity to learn within a
positive and challenging environment and to acquire life-long
skills that empowers them to become responsible and productive
members of the community and citizens of the world.
Teachers seek to create a classroom environment that promotes
student success by working with parents and the community in a
partnership to help develop the academic, social, emotional and
physical well-being of all of our children. This is accomplished
through implementation of the New Jersey Core Curriculum
Standards that focuses upon the infusion of critical thinking,
problem solving and decision-making skills into nine content
areas. These areas include language arts literacy, mathematics,
science, social studies, world languages, health and physical
education, technology, visual/performing arts and career/family
and life-skills education.
Implementation of the standards allows the school to respond to
the inevitable changes that take place in our family, our
community and the world.
Elementary School students will
demonstrate:
·
Positive
self-esteem, self discipline, and self expression
·
Effective
communication and social skills
·
Critical/creative thinking, problem solving, decision-making and
appropriate risk taking
·
Information
literacy through the use of technology
·
Individual
excellence and desire to become a life-long learner

Elementary School Enrichment Program:
All New Jersey
school districts are required to offer an Enrichment Program to
eligible students. In Wallington much of this is accomplished
through higher level classes at the secondary school and a
variety of programs at the elementary school. This year the
elementary school program has been enhanced to include a “G & T”
club and a liaison person to facilitate articulation between the
regular classroom teachers and the Enrichment Program students.
The program is being coordinated by
Mrs. Mary Jane Machtemes, the elementary school guidance
counselor. To find out more about the program and/or to access
your child’s progress in this enriched curriculum please access
the following link.
