GOOD NEWS WORTH BRAGGING ABOUT

Inside New Jersey Magazine, published and distributed by the Star Ledger, and part of the NJ.Com website, is a well respected publication with an extremely large circulation. On September 30th, 2011 they published an article identifying New Jersey’s Best Public High Schools as determined by State Test Scores within District Factor Groups (DFG). DFG is a measure utilized by the New Jersey Department of Education, and separates schools into categories based on the poverty rate in the district.

Of the 77 districts in NJ identified in the 2nd lowest socioeconomic category of “B” ,Wallington’s position as Number 8 resulted in Wallington Jr./Sr. HS being named “ One of the Best Public High Schools in the State of New Jersey. The chart below was included as part of

the article. You will notice our neighbors are nowhere to be found.

This is something the entire K-12 district should be proud of as the entire staff played a significant role in the preparation of these students.

About Wallington

Wallington is a small community, slightly less than one square mile in area, located eight miles from New York City on the banks of the Passaic River. The district has three schools serving 1,250 students: Jefferson School (K-3), Frank W. Gavlak School (K-6), and Wallington Jr./Sr. High School (7-12). Students are encouraged to participate in the vast range of co-curricular programs (i.e. student government, journalism, drama, athletics, music, clubs, Academic Decathlon, etc). There is a strong connection between the school and community as evidenced by Parent-Teacher groups: the PTA at the elementary level, and the Home & School Organization at the secondary school level. The school district promotes traditional values important to the community- Loyalty, Family, Patriotism, and Tolerance towards others.
