Jefferson Elementary:
The month of May is filled with many activities for our
Kindergarten through 3rd grade students at Jefferson School. The
month started off with the NJ Ask Test for our 3rd grade
students during the week of May 4th. Other special activities
include a trip to the Bronx Zoo for first grade students, and a
special “Play Day” event that focuses on relay races, and team
building activities and topped off with ice cream provided by
the PTA.
A Barnes and Noble fund raiser will take place at the Clifton
store on May 19th, from 9:00 am to 11:00 pm. Parents are
encouraged to visit and purchase great books for your summer
reading time. All monies raised will be used to purchase books
for both the Jefferson and Gavlak school libraries.
Parents and students from both the Jefferson and Gavlak schools
are invited to attend a Movie Night at Gavlak School to be shown
in the All Purpose Room on May 29th starting at 7:00 pm. The
movie shown will be “High School Musical 3” and is a great
opportunity to view a movie with friends and enjoy delicious
popcorn donated by the Wallington Education Association.
As we finish our school year, the month of June will bring us
the “Graduation Ceremony” for all of our Kindergarten students
from Jefferson and Gavlak schools on June 23rd at 9:15 am in the
Gavlak School All Purpose Room. The children will sing songs and
receive their certificates for the completion of their
Kindergarten program. |
Mission Statement:
The Wallington Elementary Schools believe
that all students should have the opportunity to learn within a
positive and challenging environment and to acquire life-long
skills that empowers them to become responsible and productive
members of the community and citizens of the world.
Teachers seek to create a classroom environment that promotes
student success by working with parents and the community in a
partnership to help develop the academic, social, emotional and
physical well-being of all of our children. This is accomplished
through implementation of the New Jersey Core Curriculum
Standards that focuses upon the infusion of critical thinking,
problem solving and decision-making skills into nine content
areas. These areas include language arts literacy, mathematics,
science, social studies, world languages, health and physical
education, technology, visual/performing arts and career/family
and life-skills education.
Implementation of the standards allows the school to respond to
the inevitable changes that take place in our family, our
community and the world.
Elementary School students will
demonstrate:
·
Positive
self-esteem, self discipline, and self expression
·
Effective
communication and social skills
·
Critical/creative thinking, problem solving, decision-making and
appropriate risk taking
·
Information
literacy through the use of technology
·
Individual
excellence and desire to become a life-long learner
