Gavlak Elementary:

February 2012

Our grade six students are getting ready for their Valentine Social which will be held on February 15th.

This is always a wonderful opportunity for our students to enjoy playing fun games that are run by staff members, dance to a variety of songs and enjoy delicious refreshments that are donated by the Wallington Education Association.

All of our elementary students have been studying the “Jazz Genre” in music class and will soon be attending a “Dixieland” assembly on February 16th. Each student will enjoy wearing their colorful mask made in art class, as they celebrate “Mardi Gras” New Orleans style.

Mission Statement:
The Wallington Elementary Schools believe that all students should have the opportunity to learn within a positive and challenging environment and to acquire life-long skills that empowers them to become responsible and productive members of the community and citizens of the world.

Teachers seek to create a classroom environment that promotes student success by working with parents and the community in a partnership to help develop the academic, social, emotional and physical well-being of all of our children. This is accomplished through implementation of the New Jersey Core Curriculum Standards that focuses upon the infusion of critical thinking, problem solving and decision-making skills into nine content areas. These areas include language arts literacy, mathematics, science, social studies, world languages, health and physical education, technology, visual/performing arts and career/family and life-skills education.

Implementation of the standards allows the school to respond to the inevitable changes that take place in our family, our community and the world.

Elementary School students will demonstrate:

Â·Positive self-esteem, self discipline, and self expression

·Effective communication and social skills

·Critical/creative thinking, problem solving, decision-making and appropriate risk taking

·Information literacy through the use of technology

·Individual excellence and desire to become a life-long learner

Elementary School Enrichment Program:
All New Jersey school districts are required to offer an Enrichment Program to eligible students. In Wallington much of this is accomplished through higher level classes at the secondary school and a variety of programs at the elementary school. This year the elementary school program has been enhanced to include a “G & T” club and a liaison person to facilitate articulation between the regular classroom teachers and the Enrichment Program students. The program is being coordinated by This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. , the elementary school guidance counselor. To find out more about the program and/or to access your child’s progress in this enriched curriculum please access the following link.
