Failing in High School
A total of 120 credits is required to receive a Wallington High School diploma. If a student fails a subject, no credit is obtained for this subject. Credits must be made up. If the subject failed is not a required subject, it may sometimes be possible to substitute a different subject for the subject failed.
Students failing English or Physical Education will be required to attend summer school. Only one level of these subjects can be taken in a given year. If during the high school career a student fails more than one subject which he/she does not make up, it may not be possible to graduate in four years. In such instances summer school is recommended.
College Admissions
Colleges require specific numbers of college units for admission. Pupils planning to attend college are reminded to work with their counselor to select courses that are accepted college entrance units. College admission counselors not only weigh the pupil's cumulative average and class rank but also the quality of courses studied in high school.
Parents are also encouraged to call the high school Guidance Office (973-777-0808) to arrange an appointment to discuss any question concerning their child's academic program or progress.
