The focus of K-3 Instrumental Music is to develop the students' understanding and appreciation of music. That is done through singing, moving, keeping a beat, listening, and teamwork. We learn how hear pitches and read rhythms, both of which are the foundation to performing a piece of music on an instrument. In Third Grade, the students learn how to play and read the music of the recorder, as well demonstrate their hard work in a Spring Performance.
The 4th Grade and the 5th and 6th Grade Bands provide students with the opportunity to perform Wind Band repertoir. This sounds of this genre of music are played by Flutes, Clarinets, Alto Saxophones, Trumpets, French Horns, Trombones, and Percussion instruments. As a member of this ensemble, the students learn how to produce sounds on their instrument as well as reinforce their music reading ability. Through both individual and group work, the students perform music that is demonstrated at the Winter and Spring Concets.
Little Kids Rock provides students with the oportunity to perform Popular Music. The sounds of this ensemble are produced by Guitars, Basses, Pianos, and Drumsets. As a member of this ensemble, the students learn how to play various chord and rhythm patterns as well as learn how to improvise and jam together. Through both individual and group work, the students perfomr music that is demonstrated at the Spring Concert.
