The Wallington Public Schools is pleased and proud to announce that all students in grades 9-12 will have access to a Chromebook for use in school and at home. This 1 to 1 initiative will offer our students the ability to extend their classroom experiences to their homes - utilizing all of the same tools they would be using during the school day while outside the classroom. This project has been in the making for several years as our district Board of Education has been dedicated to the allocation of funding annually to develop our technology offerings, increase our students’ access to devices, and increase the number of chrome units in our buildings. At the same time, our teachers and educational staff have been the recipients of extensive training and professional development on the uses of technology in the classroom and the use of G Suite specifically. It is our hope that this initiative will enhance education in these grade levels by offering student-centered, collaborative, and engaging instruction for students.
The High School Administration will be in contact with you as we begin to roll out this new initiative. They will be able to share with you some important information regarding the care and upkeep of these devices, expectations for student learning, insurance options, and a variety of other logistical and procedural matters that are important and need to be addressed.
As you can imagine, this is a very comprehensive undertaking and my technology staff and administrators will be working over the next several weeks and months to facilitate what we hope will be a smooth start to our new 1:1 program. While we are sure to find “bumps in the road”, I am confident that we will navigate them all successfully in this first year of such a large undertaking. Of course, we appreciate the cooperation of our students, staff, and our parents as well. Should you have any questions during that time I would invite you to reach out to your building administration or my office.
